Alice Cooper Brisbane, Australia June 28 2005 [29 Jun 2005|12:17pm]

[ mood | ecstatic ]

Alice Last night was amazing! Arrived early with my big brother Laurie. Milling around outside the venue there was a diverse array of fans. From the older types, right through to teenagers. Some even dressed up in Alice face makeup which was pretty avid!

Got my camera in no problems (took hundreds of photos and will upload the better ones to my website sometime soon). And the seats were awesome!! SOOO close to the stage!

Billy Thorpe started the night off with a good mix of brand new, and old songs. Got the crowd singing along to "Most People I Know". The sound was awesome (my ears are still ringing).

But Alice?Collapse )

Finshed ALICE COOPER product... [09 Aug 2004|12:10pm]

Well, this looks a bit different than the painting I posted a few days ago...

You'll note that in addition to the logo and text, Sony has made some changes. The Rainbow-colored stars... Removal of the skull, snake and spider... The addition of butterflies.

Keep in mind, for better or worse, I had nothing to do with these changes since you've seen the last posted painting.

What do I think? I like my version better, but to tell you the truth, I've learned to become indifferent to such changes by the higher ups. Changes will always be made due to marketing folks and people with the money...

I can see it now- "Thanks to everyone for coming to this last minute meeting in regards to the latest ALICE COOPER T-shirt design. We've been noticing a declining trend in the market for skulls and snakes, but butterflies appear to be all the rage with the Blink 182 crowd, so we've made some changes... Also our fashion consultants are telling us that 'cursive' is going to be the new 'helvitica'..."

Anyway, the changes could have been more drastic, so I can't complain...

What do you guys think?

Finished painting ALICE COOPER! [06 Aug 2004|05:28pm]

For those of you who've been keeping up, here's the final ALICE COOPER painting for the Concert T-shirt. (Baby Doll T)

Of the two penciled designs, most of you liked this one the best, so thanks to everyone for sharing their comments.

I'll be sure to post the final product with the logo and all... Critiques, comments, and suggestions are always welcome as usual! Thanks! :)

Which ALICE COOPER T-Shirt design is better? [23 Jul 2004|12:58pm]

Hello. The gig is to design a girlie T that will be sold at ALICE COOPER's concerts this upcoming tour. The idea is to make a retro image that looks like it could be on a pinball machine from the 70's. The concept is to have bright rainbow-like colors and stars and gaudy curving stripes, yet in contrast- still have the dark imagery that IS Alice Cooper...

Sketch 1

Sketch 2

So, which one is better? Constructive criticism is always welcome... I'll post the final art when completed...

Dennis Dunaway is my favourite bassplayer. [27 Apr 2004|09:59am]

When I was a kid, my first real rock album was Alice Cooper -Billion Dollar Babies - 1973.
I think it was the first music that I really listened to. There were of course the children's songs my mom had sung, there were sopngs that we sang at school. And there was music on the radio, and my father had a lot of jazz records that I had often heard.
But the first music I really listed to was that album: Billion Dollar Babies. With Dennis Dunaway on bass.
I have listened to a lot of music since then. I listen to blues, jazz, soul, funk, rock and roll, metal and most things in between in between. From Billie Holiday via Jimi Hendrix and Frank Zappa to Guns and Roses.
So I heard a lot of bassplayers, both on records and live. Worked with various bassplayers. I even played the bass myself on one gig, and on several home-recordings, even though my main weapons are piano and guitar.
It seems like everyone is always searching for that ultimate bass sound.

But lately, I've been listening a lot to those old Alice Cooper records again. (I have them all on CD now, I have no idea what happened to my LP's)
And I find that Dennis Dunaway really has the utlimate bass sound for me. His sound is just perfect.
And as for his playing: it is just right. Sometimes he plays quite simple lines, sometimes he plays rather complicated. Sometimes he plays real basic rythms, sometimes he is very melodic. But he is always just right. It always fits perfectly into the arrangement of the song.
He may not be the most skillful bassplayer ever. There are bassplayers around, especially in the jazz and funk scene, that do far more complicated stuff than Dennis does. But what Dennis Dunaway does always sounds just right. To me it does.

[12 Dec 2003|09:11pm]

I just joined this community. Alice Cooper is the definition of everything I love about rock 'n' roll and more. He's got everything - the humor, the stage show, prescence, a storyline, concept albums, and of course, great music. I am planning on someday being the proud owner of an Alice tattoo on my back.

I also keep an Alice Cooper community on livejournal, AliceTrashesLJ, but have yet to do much with it because of having no time lately. Feel free to join, though, as I want it to grow in the future.

If anyone is as Alice obsessed as I am, feel free to add me to your friends list. I need more Coop fans as friends.
